    Hi Dave,

*If* Brainbom were to consider user submitted models, you might want to wander over to download.com and see what’s available.

I saw something from amabilis that does x files (http://www.amabilis.com/products.htm) for what seems a reasonable price. It was given the highest editor rating. They have a freeware version to try out – the freeware version doesn’t support x files from what I quickly read though.

This is NOT an endorsement on my part as I just submit textures created with Photoshop.

    Regards, Chris

    Hi David,

As RTR uses X-files it should be possible to use every 3D software that can export X files.

Besides the already mentioned 3D Canvas by Amabilis, I own the following 3D software that supports X files:

    – AC3D: http://www.ac3d.org/index.html” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.ac3d.org/index.html for $ 69.95

    – Milkshape 3D: http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/index.html” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/index.html which costs only $ 25.

But of course, before we can start modeling, we need detailed specifications of the X files BrainBombers uses. I have already contacted BrainBombers concerning that. But I don’t know, if they will allow users to create their own 3D models.

    We will see.

    Kind regards,

    Willi

    Hi Dave s

I ´d read that problem. Did you search the freeware 3d-editor DelED lite.

I ´ve it on my haddrive. if you need then send me the mailadress over PM then i will send it to you. Has x-exporter.

Ok i have made my mind up on milkshape 3D because it will also create objects for other games on my computer but i am a little concerned weather or not it will work yet.

hope brainbombers can tell which type of x-file RTR is so i can get building.

Thanks for evryone who helped and hopefully soon i can get my stuff on the site for evryone to enjoy.

    Thanks Again

    Hi David S

You can create your models all on milkshape3d and after that you can use DelED.lite as a convertor to x. I hope that helps you create your own stuff. :) 😉

I know this is an old thread but I just got here so….

I use trueSpace 6.6. It’s much more intuitive than a lot of the other 3D authoring programs. Instead of spline manipulation and entering numbers in entry fields, tS uses polygon modeling. RtR uses image based textures instead of procedural shaders but texturing and “UV Mapping” is fairly straight forward and easy in tS.

This is the registration page for the free copy of trueSpace 3.2. Its a fully working program allthough a bit unstable in certain modes.

    http://forms.caligari.com/forms/ts3all_free.html

Register first then download. It takes about 30 minutes to get the key code for your copy.

When you save an object just select .X format, as a single mesh and triangulate the object during the save. Presto! you have a model that can be used by RtR.

Be aware that even though you can make a usable model you will not be able to include it in RtR without complying with the protection scheme in RtR. It can recognize an unregistered object, and although you can load any RtR X object into trueSpace and change it, do not try to save over the original object. RtR will no longer recognize it as a valid object.

    Paul
