Here’s the first of the construction equipment. The “bucket” is separate so you can use the crane with just the “headache ball”.

It’s not a mechanically accurate depiction of a boom crane, most of them have a pulley structure at the back end of the cab but I had to eliminate it to keep mesh complexity down.

    Hi Paul…

As a builder, I have seen many a crane. But I’ve gotta’ tell ya’, I’ve never seen one that looked any cooler that this one! Really really cool!

    Great Job!!

    Thanks Mark.

When you finally get it into your RtR take a close look inside the cab ….! 😉

I may risk a few more polygons and at least improve the tracks. Then I can use them to make the dozer and track-hoe. If any of these objects seem to be missing ground shadows, don’t wory, I’ll include them in the final export.

How about a chain-link fence? Note: The steel piling bulkhead dock makes a good embankment, too.

I had started to work on creating the chainlink fence

but yours looks so much better then mine

Now all we need is some critters to put behind the fence to protect the junk yard

The trick here Don is to create a DDS image with an alpha channel. The fence actually only has 21 polys (42 after triangulation), and most of those are in the posts. The fence itself is a single plane.

If anyone is trying to alter some of the textures and need to adjust the alpha channel here’s a link to MW Graphics’ Dxtbmp, originally intended as a MS Flight Simulator skin editor. It allows you to edit the alpha as a bitmap and then recombine it to the DDS as an alpha.

(some other image tools as well)

Be aware that DXTBmp WILL convert images to DDS that are NOT standard size; ie, 16, 32, 64, 128, etc but for RtR they MUST be sized using these dimensions.

Alphas in RtR can be black and white (trans or not) or 8 bit or 256 levels of semi- transparent.

I also want to tell everyone here that I’ll be working out of a port (Freshwater Bayou – really out in the sticks of Louisiana) for a few weeks that has no wireless network. The fence makes 50 items for the “American” expansion but I still have more I want to model. I’ll be working on these (… it’s GOOD to be the captain 😉 ) even if I can’t post my progress. When we finish the contract in a few weeks I’ll post a few images showing what I’ve added.

I’m going to try to hold out here until the end of the weekend so if anyone has a specific request try to get it in before Monday morning.

    This one’s for Mark! :D

There used to be a theater like this in Norfolk, VA close to the art school. It was like stepping back into the ’30s because it only showed ’30s and ’40s black and white movies. I couldn’t find any photos of it but I found pictures of one in Acton, Maine.

I know that in most “Art-Deco” buildings like this the decorative pillars should be colored or chrome but in the photo they were cement. Besides being accurate to the present building, chrome is really hard to do in RtR!

… trying to come up with a way to do the marquee lights. … er …uh … I’ll correct my spelling before the final export, too. 😳

    Hi Paul..

Thats a pretty spiffy theater no doubt, but that aint Acton, Me. There aint neva been nuthin’ that fancy here. ayuh. In Acton Maine, we are talking the sticks! The full time population of about 2000 swells to nearly 4000 when the Massachusettes folks come up for the summer. (we have other names for them, but we’ll keep it civil.) Most every driveway has an old plow truck parked in it but there is nothing that even resembles a side walk. And thats just why we bought a house here! I do appreciate the thought though. One request. Do take care of youself while your out in the swamps and bayous. I can’t wait to see your creations when you get back.

    Take care..

    :D Hay!

Look what I figured out Ya’ll

Now we wont be limited to one road grade; the road will follow the angle of the terrain where it’s set.

PS A one day reprieve, 10 foot seas means I get to stay in port :D
