Hi all,

I´m trying to model a set for catenary inclusive grabbers for these trains. Here is the first shot of a catpole.

I´d use the innercityhead to see right dimensions for the pole. The cables and grabbers will fellow as the masts and cablebridges for stations.

    (not textured yet)

and here a shot of a grabber in process

    Wow Peter!

    Great! :D

A catenary always in my dream! 😉

    Hi Peter…

Very cool. That adds a whole new dimension to things!

    Nice work….

    Hi Mark and Maury,

The catenary with cables and cablebridges will use few polygons,

but the grabber will use more a bit. For the pillows and the isolators in the grabber i´ll also cubes to reduce the value of polygons,to avoid the leak of preformance. The project has to be to continued. First i make it comlete on the modellersoftware to see the right dimensions and then i´ll testing on RTR.

    Go back to work 😉

    Hi all,

Here is the next shot, this time is it an I25 with grabber:

Normally locos and powerheads of trais are 4 meters high and the cable is 5 meters above the track,i´d chose the relation 4 to 1.

I hope i got right measures of the grabber on the loco.

    Hi Peter.

Instead of modeling the cables individually, try using a flat horizontal plane with an alpha channel texture. Even a three sided box stretched out to form the cable would have 5 polys and triangulation for .X makes it 10. If your “overhead” has three cables (most electric systems here in the US use at least two, some use three), that’s 30 triangles or surfaces per section. The alpha channel plane will only be 2 triangles per section.

If the next version of RtR could include a very sharp 90 degree curve, this idea could be expanded to include trollys. :D

    Hi all,

This idea what Paul mean,is alredy in my head(cables). If i use a pentagon to realize a cable over alphachannel i´ll need 3 trangles(its for endpieces in terminals and for cablebridges only),then the catenary will not slowdown the rtr-system. Few days after i´ll show of it. :) Thanx for the flowers 8)

    Hi all,

Here is a next type of powergrabber, mostly for trams and older e-loco and emu´s. It´s an o-type grabber. I hope this grabber is good as the c-type.

    Here a shot of this

The springs and isolators will be used tho assemble this to a tram or a emu or loco.

    Hi all,

Here is another version for an e-train such as TGV or KTX

it shows a pic of a loco with catenarymast and cable

the shot has´nt the good quality, but it´s all visible.

the cable is a single plane.

Great work, Peter. Keep it up. Your work is appreciated by all of us.

    Hi all,

The texture for the cable was “normally a mistake”,but i´d verify that with a pic of a japanese catcable. The JRW use zigzagcables bitween the maincables, because many earthquakesare there so they haven´t any effect on catenarysystem. 💡 The cables can be texturedited for many regions on the world. If that all really complete then i´ll show off on a rtr-screenshot.

And you all can see how it is. 8) I go back to work on it(Small time because im a shiftworker :? 😉 )

Hi Robear, special thanx for your cheering words, sometime i need these words,as sweets for my mind. :)

    Hi Peter..

It just keeps looking better and better! I can’t wait to get those catpoles

and grabbers in a downtown area of a layout. All kinds of posibilities come to mind!

    Keep up the great work!

    Hi all,

here i have an example with texture used from Dreamer(thx) of an ice

The grabber is from the development time of the ICE. The now acting ICE-trains have all the C-type grabbers. Soon i´ll let make a test-xli to see how it works. I see i slow, but it´s because i work in shifts. I hope you fans like it. The Acela,CHR3,TGV,Eurostar and so more will fellow.
