Foward and Backward in Digital Mode

In analog mode it is very easy to make an engine go forward, stop for some seconds and then go backward in the same track it came from, just programming some controls to control the power device of the line.

But, how can I do the same, in digital mode, using only signals?

if you move the signal from one side of the rails to the other the train will travel in the opposite direction.

I understand, and in fact, I use the signals placement in the way you describe in you answer, but I decide to put the sign in the “left” side or the “right” side of the track in the very moment that I am BUILDING my rail. And this is a “static” placement.

When I say “static” I mean that the signal CANNOT be changed while I am in “play” mode (just watching the trains “running” in a completely built rail), as in opposition to the behavior of controls, that are just “programed” while BUILDING the rail, but they “execute” their programation while “RUNING” the game.

And that is exactly what I want: imagine a long horizontal piece of track. The engine must start its movement from left to right, then stop before the end of the track and after that, return its way back in the same track from right to left.

So, the question remains.

I apologize for my “medium level” english. If I didn’t make myself understood, please inform. (or even if I didn’t understand your answer) 😳

Place the signal on a short straight so, that the engine runs on the next track piece while it brakes. Then on the next piece you can use another signal to start it in the opposite direction. There is no better way.

Hi Antonio,

I mainly build layouts in digital mode. I can change direction of trains as brainbom say. And i tested to control speed of trains also in digital mode.

If you let trains with more than 1 loco in front drive over the board you can control speed over distance from signal to the controler for this signal.

If the train has to pass signal with fullspeed then set controler for that signal far 2 trackpieces. If you want the train slow down then set the controler on the 1st trackpiece after the signal 😉
