Hi everyone :D

I’m new to the forums but have had a registered copy of RTR for two years now.

My name is Paul. You may have seen my screen shots with the explanation that they included some of my own retouching and modifications. Well two years ago I began work with the Brainbombers guys to create an expansion pack of American architecture, but I’m also a ship’s captain and became heavily involved in the repairs to the oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico after the two hurricanes two years ago.

Things have slowed down now to a more normal pace so I have a little more time to do some 3D modeling. I’ve included a couple of screen shots to show what I have been working on.

If you have some ideas for other objects (American style) to be included (other than trains and carriages; we’ll leave that up to the guys that do that best 😉 ) post them here – I’ll do my best to include them. If you are requesting an object that’s not so obvious try to include a photo. Right now I have about 24 items but would like to make at least twice that much for an expansion pack.

Even small things! I have created a “culvert”, a guy in a boat catching a fish, a “bilboard” forest to create a large forest area that won’t slow down your system (although the texture size is pretty large the billboard forest object is only two triangles as opposed to about 48 for a single tree), a stop sign, a RR Xing sign ….

    Give me some ideas!

    Paul

(a few of my own ground textures, too.)

    Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum, and thanx for this great shots. 8)

You can ask especially Chris,Shapiro,AZRoger for ideas to create objects in american style. One idea from me will be a missisipi-wheelsteamship 😉

    Paul,

    Welcome back to the forum

All I can say is wow what an addition your models would be to the program. I love the mobile homes and all of structures that you have created.

I can wait for them to be added.

The only things I see that are missing is a gas station, a warehouse, and a single level ranch house.

    Hi Paul…

Beautiful work. I agree with Don..WOW. Somthing I would like to see is construction equipment, bulldozer, excavator, back hoe, etc. I look forward to the Extenion pack with the items You have pictured!

    Thanks all for the encouragement!

A single level, ranch style home is already half modeled and I have sketches for a “Fast Mart” gas station and an old country service station/garage. There could be all kinds of possibilities for a warehouse from a big cube structure found in modern industrial parks to an old downtown building with loading docks and office/store front. What’s your idea?

I like the Caterpillar construction equipment! I was thinking of also including some farming and harvesting equipment to go with the IH tractor. A good-ol’ pick-um-up truck should be easy! Ford or “Chivy”? Either way, a ’59 seems to be a necessity to depict rural America properly. 😆 A yellow school bus and a Trailways cruiser would be a good addition.

Now as for a paddlewheel river boat. That will be a tough one to try to keep model complexity to a minimum, but I’ll try. I can model the Barefoot Princess, a paddlewheel dinner boat I used to run in Myrtle Beach. I can use some of my old photos to replace some modeling detail. Textures wont slow down your system nearly as much as 3D triangles.

Keep the ideas coming. I may not be able to do all of them but I’ll do my best. I’ll post images as I progress.

    Hi all

Welcome Paul looks like you got some good ideas. I go away for a few seconds ‘n’ all sorts happen. Cool that things may be moving along again.

I was think about somthing we could make a long loading shed out of. Ill try to find a picture of what I mean and post it. We got the red engine shed but with it having the chimney on it , it looks abit silly when you join them up.

    Here’s the service station.

This is a render from my 3D modeling program so the shadows won’t look this good. I haven’t done the X file conversion yet incase anyone here may have a good suggestion for improvement.

-The brick and cinder block will each be re-paintable.

-I modeled the interior as opposed to painted windows so a light can be placed somewhere inside for night light effects.

-For those younger than the age of about 45, in 1968 ESSO renamed itself EXXON with the opening of the Alaskan pipeline. (so this is an “historical” piece!) and by the way; a 6 ounce Coca-cola from that vending machine cost 5 cents! Ah, those were the days. :D

-The lot was just for the image. If I include one it will have a worn cement texture like the shop floor.

-’50s ’60s style gas pumps on the way. I think I’ll make them separate so you could arrange your own lot.

    More later

    Paul

P.S. Sorry, the 911 Targa isn’t really a part of the set. It’s a little too detailed (high vertex count) to include.

    Hi Paul

Cool garage. Now all we need is a couple of dodgy crooks on the run.

Well ……. maybe I could reduce the poly count a bit for the porsche, Ill see what I can do. It’s really easy to get over detailed – it’s really tough to “downsize” later.

Just another view but with early ’60s pumps.

Hay! Am I the only one here that remembers numbers like this at the gas pumps?

I remember prices that low (those where the days)

But that Porshe would not have been around at that time
