I’ve been sitting here at the RtR Station for six months waiting for the Brainbomber Run to stop again. The weeds are growing up around my ankles and the Station Master gave up and went home weeks ago. Today I noticed cobwebs blowing across the tracks… not to mention my boarding pass is turning yellow.

Rule The Rail is a great simulation (I don’t call it a game because it isn’t) and it saddens me to see the interest in it languish (which it is, IMHO). I realise that modding or creating enough new objects to create an expansion pack and programming advancements into the game engine is very, very time consuming and takes a dedicated team. And, there are some very dedicated forum members on this site who hang in there, check in every couple of days, and try to keep this site alive. There are also a couple thousand Porn and Pharmaceutical Kings who seem to have a weird facination with model railroading, but that is a subject for another day…

Anyway, we all love ya Brainbomber. You are a Master at your craft and you are decent, kind and fair.

We all here raise our lanterns in awe.

Now, how about a quick note to let us know that the steam is still up?

The welfare of our layouts depends on you.

Or better yet, give us an ETA on the release of the next Extension Pack and Update and make a complete fool out of me. Please!!

For now, I’ll just sit here by the tracks while the sun goes down and the weeds grow, and listen for that far off whistle of the Brainbomber Run.

    Hi Robear,

may be the brainbombers are feeling now as the 2 trains in your sign (be crashed too) :? I´m also waiting for the 12th expansion and 1.5. Brainbom has might to say anything about the state of RTR. But to now we received no word. 😥

    Hi Robear and Peter,

It saddens me to see this place slowly pass away, and I hope that is not the case. I haven’t posted much to the forum, for it seemed like every time I checked in, someone else had already posted what I was going to, or there was an answer to my question already listed. I am still working on my first layout, ( which is verry large and complicated ). Several times I started to turn away from it to start a smaller one, and then a new extension pack would come out and I’d go back to my large layout to incorperate the new things into it. A couple of months ago, I was going to put it to rest again, but then I saw all of the great things comming down the pike that those in here with the tallent to create such great additions, that I went back to my original large layout and started planning to incorperate the new additions and finish it up and submit it for others to enjoy. It saddens me to think that It will never be able to be completed after all the hours that I’ve put into it. I hope we are wrong, but the writing on the wall tends to lean towards this place drying up and blowing away. How Sad!!!

Thanks Gnome. It’s great to have members such as yourself who bring a positive outlook to this forum. I remember some impatient members (myself amongst them) beginning to grumble before the last extension pack and update release (a sure sign that you have a great product) but at least the membership was making noise. Now it is just a very small handful of members who post every once in a while as if they were trying to poke at a dead thing to see if it moves. If you look at the membership roles, only about 400 are legitimate and the other two or three thousand are link bots. I’ve been a Web designer and consultant for just about eight years now, and all of the above is a sure sign of a website and its product in trouble. And even if the next update release is right around the corner, the Brainbomber Group has to keep the membership informed or risk losing the very members who make this website and software a success.

I would like to see Brainbombers release just enough of the source code (if possible) so that the model makers out there could skin and model engines, cars, objects, etc. and build up a modding community for RtR. You can never have enough add-ons for a simulation like this, and there are just not enough now to keep your layouts varied. New members would still have to purchase the basic RtR and IH software.

But that is just my ramblings and I can only hope for the best and keep listening.

    Hi Robear and All

I too agree with gnome about slowing down it has in the pass . but what I am wondering is how many RTRs’ we really do have that just read the forum get there question answered just from reading .It would be cool 8) if there was some way to have a poll to find out how many RTRS’ we do have ?? . thats how Imagination falls came to be I was reading how impatient some were being and a lot wants need so I just start building with what I had to work with and to my surprise a week later when Brainbomers did release 1.4 there were some models in that release that we were both working on but in two different ways .I was quit shock. I am sure Brainbomers and the modelers were too. kind a funny.but I thank it was inspiration for modelers and the boulders of layout kind a cool knowing that we only paid $14.99 for the program and what it has done for so many . so much for that lets take about the codes can you think if the codes where release if some of members in that list unwanted pages everyones been talking about get a hold of them it won’t be Thomas the Tank going a cross monitor ??? I can only imagine what the skin on a box car would look like or the next moving train would look like I am sure for all the good RTR folks would not want that to happen now.wow thats long winded for me. :) lets keep hoping the old coal shovel keeps a moving and we all keep steaming down the track. :)

    to all have fun

    Hi all…

I think Gnome has it exactly right. Things slow down from time to time. I don’t think we’re hearing the death knell of the RTR forum just yet. Rather, I’d say, the calm before the storm. I am as excited as the rest to get a hold of the next extention pack and program version. Having seen all the great stuff that Capn’ Paul, Willi, Chris, and all the other very tallented modelers have been making, what true RTR fan wouldn’t be?

I beleive what we need now is patience. I have had only a little experiance with progaming, but enough to know that incorperating a bunch of new stuff into a program can be a long and arduous task. And how often do things go right the first time? Things allways take longer than we would like. (how many time have I had to explain THAT to a customer!) And , as Little Hobo so wisely points out, when was the last time any of us got this much of anything for $14.99 ?

I also beleive that if Brainbom started handing out code freely, we could all sit back and watch the program crash and burn. As the perverts on the other end of those three thousand link bots started posting box cars full of Viagra and bill boards adorned with various forms of smut, the forum would really start to smell bad!.

And one more point. If Brainbon never again posted an extention pack or program update, would we all not agree that RTR is still one hell of a toy?

In the end, it is up to us, the fans, to keep this forum alive! If it dies, it will not be Brainboms failure, but ours!

I think I’m going to keep posting and hoping, and maybe one day, I’ll even take the time to work on one of Dave’s Project tracks!

    Here’s Hoping….

    Hi all,

I have to agree that everything has to slow down from time to time. The world is changing everyday and things sometime come to a halt. I agree I feel this is the calm before the storm.

I have done alittle programming (mostly in VB) from time to time and yes to release a version before it is ready can be dangerous and cause many many problems.

I am just sitting on a siding waiting for the express to pass. Many miles of rail have been laid and the testing is occuring as we speak. I see small towns being built along the mainline and I see the wharf pilings going in along the river. Everyday I see new buildings going up on the horizon.

I dream of a world where I am the master of everything I see, It just takes time and I feel like I am going to live forever.

Happy Railroading and many great days to come

    Hi all

I agree that things have gone slow and we are all waiting for new stuff. I’m a bit stuck with not wanting to decorate to much. That was the main reason I did my second project track as the 1st been to hard to put together. Just to get a bit of interest and try to keep things moving abit. So have a go it’s in the layout section.

And now a message floats up weakly from the void!! :P

Been quite a while since I posted to the forums. This discussion reminds me of an old joke about the child that wouldn’t speak until about the age of six, when he all of a sudden says, “This soups too hot!!”. When everyone asks why he didn’t say anything for so long his answer was, “Everything has been fine until now!!” . I agree that if your questions and their respective answers have been posted before then why post?

Hard at work coders don’t say much, they’re focused on the code. Happy layout builders don’t say much they’re too busy laying track!! Me I didn’t post because I was out checking out the competition to RTR. There are a lot of sims out there and some are very good. (Trainz being the other sim I keep on my system) But I always come back to RTR. Nowhere do you get sooo much for such a little price!!

Anyway, hello again to all whether you post or not.

    Hi all! 😉

I check this site just about every day and I have noticed on my system that the above: “View posts since last visit” does not seem to be working! 😥

I have to check all the dates just to make sure I am not missing posts.

Maybe others have the same issue, and think no one is posting, so they don’t bother. 👿

    Alex 8)

    Edit:

I am still having the problem above 👿

“View posts since last visit” does not seem to be working! 😥

It may be just my system!!

Does anyone know what’s wrong :?:

Is anyone having the same problem :?:

    Hello everyone

Thank you Alex for your post! It opened my eyes to why I thought that this place was going away. For weeks, I had been checking the forum 2 or 3 times a day, and it always showed that there were no new posts, so I would just leave and then check back a few hours later. It did not occur to me that the new posts function might not of been working. Then a couple of days ago, I checked this listiong and read RoBear’s and Peter’s postings, and thought they were the first ones posted in weeks! It is good to see that function working again.

    Gnome :

I would be glad to give you some pic’s of the layout I’m working on, but I am going to need some assistance in doing so! I have no problem attaching photo’s to my emails, but when I went to post some screenshots of my layout, I didn’t see any controls to put the pic’s into my message. If anyone would be willing to let me know how to attach them to a postiong, I would be happy to show them to you!
