Thought I’d post this separately because the image is a little large.

… besides, this forum topic is probably a little more appropriate.

Those here in the US will recognize this as the type of tug boat (“push boat”) commonly used in the Chesapeake Bay and along the Intra Coastal Waterway and inland rivers to push barges loaded with usually raw materials; stone, grain, dry cement, etc.

This model isn’t finished yet. I’m still working on textures and a few missing parts, but I have to work to keep the mesh complexity down.

Notice the working “nav” lights! 3 mast lights means a tow greater than 150 meters or 200 feet; Yellow over white stern lights means pushing ahead or “on the hip”. I’m trying to trick RtR into showing a “light” shadow from the spot lights but I’m not sure it’ll work. There’s some other lighting tricks I’d like to experiment with, too, and I’m not particularly satisfied with the pilot-house windows.

BTW, my graphics board won’t support RtR’s complex water so I don’t know how it will look with that.

I’ll use this thread to show progress only for this model.

Can’t do all the lighting tricks I thought I could.

This one’s done and here’s some screen shots. I made all the pieces separate so the barges can be loaded or not. The wheel-wash can be added for a boat under way or left off for a boat that’s dockside.

Guess I have to make a dock now.

PS I did this for 2 years on the Chesapeake Bay from a quarry in Haver deGrace, MD to Salisbury, MD

    Hi Paul..

Nice Boat! You realize of coarse that this means we’ll need something for that little beauty to push around. Can’t ya jist see a container ship headed for a freight yard on the river! Maybe loaded with Porsches & Peticoats!

    Hi Evryone

    Great boat!

With all this river traffic you would need a place to dock all the ships so mabe a pier or a jeti should be included??

Hay :D I figured it out! The spotlight texture is just a test and a little rough but it works!

It’s actually a semi-transparent shadow with the simple water texture instead of black so it doesn’t show up in daylight. It doesn’t really illuminate anything but itself, but it looks pretty cool!

I’m working on a few “harbor” objects, but there’s really enough that could be made under that category, it might warrant it’s own pack.

Just an example of the “harbor” objects. A dock with corrugated steel bulkhead, bollards, and dolphins (the grouped pilings).

A “load-out” like this gives a table purpose.

That’s what transportation is all about, folks. Carry a bunch of stuff from point A to point B. Sometimes it takes all forms; trains and boats, planes and trucks.

By the way, the barge comes empty so it can be loaded with anything included in your objects library. Logs and crates come to mind …
