    Hi Bruce,

The LV in this version is not only to cataloque or preview only. It´s also a starter for RTR and a great help for developers for layouts or new models. 😉

If anyone create a model and want to test it,the LV is the interface bitween RTR and the Xli-tool from BB. If you have ambitions to model then model first and then ask BB for this tool. It´s a really great interface. The arcs are for not needed layouts which you want to hold. I hope this explantation helps you .

And enjoy the last 2 days of this year and prepaire for say Hello for the new year with your family. :) :) 8)

    Hi Smokey,

I don’t know what to say. You don’t mean that seriously, don’t you? If somebody can’t make a screenshot in RTR, resize it to 480 x 360 pixel with what program ever and save it under a specific name, or write a few words with Windows editor, or pack 3 files in a ZIP-File, how can he work with RTR, create his own layout, what’s much more complicated? Btw, that small work has only to be done by layout contributors, and I really think, that’s not too much work asked for, isn’t it?

If somebody is too lazy to deliver a screenshot of his layout, I can do that, of course. But to be honest, I’m not very motivated to do the work for others all the time. And who else than the layout constructor should write a short description? Of course, a description is not needed, but I find it nice and useful to know who has created that special layout and when and maybe given a few hints about operation, maybe a link to the creators website, and so on. Btw, with other simulations, like Trainz Railroad Simulator you’re not allowed to distribute layouts or anything without the needed information files.

What nobody can do for you is to rename the layouts with spaces, you have stored on your harddrive. But it shouldn’t be so complicated to right click on the layout name, selcet “rename” and then replace the spaces by an underline?

I think, Layout Viewer is very easy and comfortable to handle. And as Peter said, it’s much more than a layout catalogue or browser. Layout Viewer 2.0 opens a lot of great new features for RTR. And every option is illustrated as the whole manual is. So I really don’t understand, what should be complicated?

Have you already made a drive by night under the moonlight sky instead of that deep black standard night sky? In my opinion it just looks great! And btw, this moonlight sky took me more than 4 hours to create because of the distortions of the skybox in RTR. Have you already created a smooth, prototypical grade, you can easily select in Layout Viewer? In my opinion it’s fantastic and I’m very grateful, that BrainBombers has implemented that long awaited feature! And if you don’t need archives, just don’t use them. It’s so easy.

And you don’t mean that serious that the LV manual isn’t very detailed and rich illustrated??? So I have worked some days only for the manual for nothing? Great. Of what should I give a more detailed explanation of how to do things? How to rename files? How to resize and save a jpg file? How to write and save a simple text file? How to create a Zip file? These are the only things you have to do manually – all the rest does Layout Viewer for you.

But if that’s a widespread opinion, that Layout Viewer is too complicated, and the huge range of possibilities and features Layout Viewer opens to RTR are not appreciated, then I can easily stop working for RTR, of course. Just tell me.

    Regards,

    Willi

Thanks Peter for your reply. Willi, I am concerned by your response to my evaluation of L.V. You seem to not understand that some people are not capable of some things. I gave you acollades on the L.V. I also gave you an honest assesment from my perspective, with other users in mind. It was also meant to generate responses for you, from all the member to include their thoughts on L.V. You created this program to be used by all BBers. You did a great job. However, I remember another post that got you upset and you considered quiting at that time. I wrote you and asked you not to quit as you are needed. Do not quit. I will. I regret that I upset you. People who create things must be ready to accept genuine suggestions as well as what may be interpreted as negative. Good luck to all, and thanks for a great ride.

Well I don’t know how to say this but I have found the editor the best bit of work ever.

That’s not true, the turntable is the best, I just love that turntable.

Willi keep up the good work, have you given any thought on canopy’s for stations, like the double track ones, perhaps Chris would have a go.

    Hi all

It’s a shame that alas all forums come to this. I thought this one would be different. A frendly place to share RTR things. But it can not be as all forums allways seem to end up with people arguing. We all fall out and RTR goes down the pan and I would not want that to happen at all. It is a place were I get to speak people from all round the world that I would not know with a same interest. And this is supposed to be the season of good will. Anyway i’m always smiling. Happy new year to you all. 😆

PS (whish I could spell I had to edit this 4 times now I lost count now).

    Thanks Dave

    Hi all

I got this year quiz question. I know when you edit a post, it says so at the bottom, apart from the person who did the post, I think because I can not see how many times I edit my posts.

    The Question is

How many time did I edit that post?

Awnsers on a post card and send it to

    dayle.dave@virgin.net

    Thanks Dave

    Hi Smokey,

From your reaction I see, you really meant that very seriously. And that’s what I don’t understand. What I understand very well, “that some people are not capable of some things”. Exactly for that reason I had written that program, so everybody can enjoy RTR even more. And exactly for that reason I have made so much work and written such an extensive, detailled, rich illustrated manual for such a simple program. But that seems not to be enough.

I really seem to be on the wrong place here.

    Regards,

    Willi

Happy New Year to everyone. A safe and prosperous year ahead for you and your loved ones.

A new year resolution: Although I realize that I am a very talented software developer and graphics designer and that I contribute more than most to my hobby, I resolve to not act above my fellow hobbiests and to control my impatience with those who have not yet reached the same level of software competency as I.

In other words, we were all there once, when we didn’t know a jpeg from a pill bug. This is a superior forum. Let’s all work to keep it a learning place where everyone can feel confident and comfortable asking a question or posting an opinion.

I look forward to great things for Rule The Rail in 2007!

    Hi,

The legal rules for Layout Viewer 2.0 have changed:

    Quote:

The program is freeware. But it’s not allowed to give away the program to others.

Additionaly the download is closed at the moment. I’m sorry for all decent users, but all the others have forced me to do that!

    Regards,

    Willi
